Not quite sure what forums to ask this in, but does anyone know if DOSKEY can work with DOS 3.31... or is there a 3rd party program that can do the equivilant?

Have a look at the SIMTEL20 CDROM archive. Here's a listing of keyboard utiltiies:

Plenty of keyboard history programs. DOSKEY was not originally an MS product.

Perfect...that works!
Thanks

Just to let you know, this DOSKEY doesn't have the macro features of the MS version. You'll be all set if you only need command line editing. If you want macros/aliasing you would need a different program such as CED, a popular one in DOS 3.3 days.

I tried to download CED from the link @Chuck(G) gave, but I couldn't get any of the Zip file downloads to work. So here's another source for the same directory:

http://cd.textfiles.com/simtel/simtel20/MSDOS/KEYBOARD/

There are two Zip files you should get for the complete CED experience:

http://cd.textfiles.com/simtel/simtel20/MSDOS/KEYBOARD/CED10DA.ZIP
http://cd.textfiles.com/simtel/simtel20/MSDOS/KEYBOARD/CEDWARS2.ZIP

One of my old DOS PCs still has CED installed/operational, I think I still have the shareware disk containing the installable version. No idea which version ##.# system. Worked fine for me.

Of similar vintage, I had a system called FORMAT42 which applied an 80t format to DSDD floppy disks (5.25"), this required a DOS setting to be toggled. This process could be toggled by CED (even though the two systems were from quite different sources) so if CED was active then DSK 1 would toggle ON and DSK 0 would toggle off. FORMAT42 would cause problems if you needed to access 360k or 1.2 Mb format disks.
