I have this BBC, I think is a issue 1 model B; which might be quite rare? I'm not sure as Commodores are more my thing. It has a very low serial 1001443. It won't power on, and I have replaced C1, C2 and C9 capacitors from the PSU. It's probably still a PSU issue still as I'm not getting 5v DC from the various test points on the motherboard. I don't have all that much time free at the moment to diagnose and repair it.

I'd like to list it on eBay, for a better expert than me to have a go. I'd like to list it accurately, and some of you might recognize addons ROM's RAM etc which I should put in the listing.

Any ID help much appreciated!

Well it says "Assembled in Hong Kong" so a Hong Kong model. It says Copyright 1983 which is later than the first UK issue. A Hong Kong Issue-1?

I don't think it matters too much how rare, most BBC's seem to sell for much more if "working"

Its actually made for the German market I believe. It's fitted with Econet and has a disc interface - presumably an 8271 based one.

There should also be a large piece of shielding that covers the main area of the PCB.

This was definitely a German model, though the job sheet indicates the German OS has been replaced with the standard UK OS 1.2. In addition to Econet and 8271 disc interface, you also have the speech upgrade fitted.

The German (and US) models were all manufactured in Hong Kong and the layout of the motherboard differs from the original UK version, though functionally identical.

Probably best to fix the PSU and then connect it to the motherboard. AFAIK the German boards are rare in the UK so should sell OK on ebay. A friend has a faulty one and told me he couldn't find the schematic so good luck with fixing yours.

Head over to the stardot forums and check with the Acorn owners there.

Good luck!
Regards,
John
