The Enhanced Graphics Adapter was an improvement over [wiki]CGA[/wiki] introduced in 1984. You can usually tell if you have an EGA card if you see a let of DIP switches on the card. The switches are used for setting the backwards compatability from [wiki]MDA[/wiki] to [wiki]CGA[/wiki]; these options were used if you had an EGA card, but no EGA monitor. Unfortunitly, EGA cards had problems with [wiki]CGA[/wiki] and [wiki]MDA[/wiki] modes.
