Feeling a bit drained...

It looks like the 2032 'coin' battery I put in the 1500 is not quite enough to handle this machine...
That, or there is a power drain somewhere, but it seems that a new battery will keep things happy for no more than a couple of weeks.... FAR too fast for a memory-keeper!

There may still be a problem with the 1500 that hasnt been addressed yet, but other than this 'forgetfulness', it seems to be quite happy.

On a tangent,
I believe I have determined the problem with its original HD 'flexi-circuit-type' ribbon cable... It looks like pin 1 of EACH section (The 44 pins are separated into 2 pieces) has lost continuity to the drive connector. (A consequence of playing with it too much!)
Tho I dont remember exactly what these pins are, It is obvious that the contacts SHOULD BE there, and they arent.

How to fix it?
I intend to acquire some wire-wrap wire and use THAT as a jumper between the 'ends'...
Will just have to see if it works! It may not be pretty, but nobody's supposed to see it anyway! :p

A side note...
I have gutted the leaking 1800's battery, and intend to replace the cells with 'aftermarket parts'...
Should this work as I expect, it will be an excellent 'occasional' fill-in/extra/emergency power source! :D

Edit:
I did some looking around... It appears that the 2016 is often used in pairs to produce more than 3v for those times it is needed... and is in fact 1/2 as thick as the 2032 (figures, huh?)...
SO?
I wonder about the possibility of using (2) 2016s in the 2032 holder... thus getting LOTS more voltage (and hopefully reducing drain).

This is definately a 'look into'.

How did you retrofit the coin battery?
I removed the soldered-in "thick" coin battery from the motherboard and soldered in a coin battery socket salvaged from a modern desktop.
I'll find out if it works after I test my old hard drive and get the machine re-assembled....

Well, actually, just like that! (one of the 1st blog posts...)
(probably where U got the idea?)
BTW...
Down around the memory slot is 2 pair of jumpers (E1 and E2).
DO YOURS HAVE ANY JUMPERS ON THEM?

Mine did NOT when I got it, but I dont know that they're for... so this info would be appreciated! :D

Yep, I have a tiny blue switch box with two switches. Both are i the down (off?) position. No otherjumpers.

Well, if you didnt see it that must mean there is no jumper installed...
The blue switches are BELOW the memory slot, but the jumper pins are JUST above and at the RIGHT END of the memory slot...
I suspect you would have noticed if there HAD been a jumper on one/both of them...

... but confirmation of this would be nice!

Edit:

Also, I dont know that the 2nd blue 'switch' is for, but the LEFT (1st) one is meant to 'move' the CAPS key... to the LEFT CTRL key, if I recall correctly.

I know it is a compatability issue with an older keyboard, but dunno why.
