One game that recently caught my interest is "Hack". It seems like it was released as an open-source work in the '80s, but I can't really find anything but source-code on the internett (with the exeption of one of the earlier releases).

Does anybody know where I can find executable DOS binaries of version 1.0.3 of this game (if they exist)?

It might be useful to know that hack is derived from the game Rogue,
which also spawned Larn, Moria, Angband, etc.
You might try searching for DOS versions under those names.

I still particularly enjoy David Goodenough's port of Rogue for CP/M(!)

Cheers,
Andy

You might want to look for nethack, a "modern" version. If you run linux you get it if you install the bsdgames package.

I would prefere the older version since I'm planning to run it on my XT (NetHack requires a 386). Is there any way I can compile the .tar.gz balls of version 1.0.3 into an .exe file that'll run under DOS on a PC/XT (it's text-based, so the interface would not be a problem)?
