hi!

Way back in ye olde days (like the mid 90s) I would have a stash of motherboard manuals for everything my employer (ISP+computer store) had, but it's 2020 and I no longer have all of this. :)

I bought this 286-10 board from ebay and I'm looking to see if anyone remembers anything about it. I remember where to put the PC speaker, but I've no idea about the DIP switches or the other jumpers on this board.

Thanks!

That is a fairly generic board. I would hope that it has the same jumper settings as other C&T 286 boards with 1 MB* or the previous user left the switches in a sensible state.

* I can't read the RAM labels but I am expecting that they are 256kbit chips.

GSETUP should work with the board. If it works like other 286 C&T boards of the time period, the extra 384 kB of RAM on the motherboard could be set as expanded and used with QRAM. It should be one of the nicer DOS 286 systems.

It's 640k - two rows of 41256's and two rows of 4164's.

if i can replace the 4164's with 41256's somehow then great, but I'd love to know what to do. :)

Hey! Look what I found!

a few weeks ago i came across another one of these boards. unbranded but clearly of the same Informtech International variety.

This one uses a TI chipset (TACT82201/2/3/4/5) but through my research the TI chipset is pin comparable with the C&T set (CHIPS P82A201/2/3/4/5). The computer came with award 3.03 bios.

My board, as well as the guy in the first post on this thread, have 48MHz and 40 MHz crystals on the boards. The default config uses the 48MHz crystal which gets divided in half for a 24MHz input into the CPU. it can also be setup to use the 40MHz crystal for a 20MHz input into the CPU. i ended up going with a 12MHz 286 CPU (@ 1 wait state.) with a 10MHZ 287 FPU; populated with 41256 ram for a total of 1024kb. seems to work well.

I have the manual (found via the wayback machine), a few different bios images and a couple pictures of the board if anyone is interested in them -- they're too to just upload onto the post here. trying to sort out the best way to get them up.

hope this helps someone else down the road
