I did some experimentation.
The results are in the table at [here], which shows the symptoms of having an IBM 5150/5160 motherboard's video switches set incorrectly.
Of interest:
* Not all cases result in the '1 long + 2 short' error beep sequence.
* For the IBM 5150, the second (and possibly first as well) BIOS revision, does the '1 long + 2 short' error beep sequence twice.
* For the IBM 5150, sometimes the A: drive's LED and motor turn on, but never turn off.
* For the IBM 5160, one case results in what appears to be a 'dead' motherboard.
