My contrast control does little when turned and brightness works but may look not as bright as it should because contrast control does little. What a could I do. Is this a capacitor issue? Maybe just clean the potentiometers. I have little experience w/tv electronics but great soldering skills if needed.

Thanks

Can't speak for the 5153, but on the 5154 the contrast knob does literally nothing until you pull on it to pop it into its active position

5153 is just turn. Just played with it and turning the contrast does nothing at this point. I'll be able to take the case off on Tuesday and try the deoxit and look for issues.

You could try turning up slightly the G2 adjustment on the flyback for a little more brightness.
Brightness and contrast can be interactive. If your gray and white are tinted then the color
temperature setup needs to be done as well.

start with cleaning the pots with deoxit. Showing photos also helps.

Started with the easiest, I do have contrast control again which is better but still duller than I believe it should be. I will now set it up so I can adjust the G2 adjustment as Larry recommended. As it sits it's still very usable. I was surprised that it was somewhat clean on the inside, just light dusk. I picked it up 10 years ago and have never open the case before. I've always kept a cover over it when not in use but the previous owner must have used it in a clean room.

I'm debating that in my head. I had a honey do list today like buy and install two toilet seats. The fun for today just fly out the window.

FYI I just spend 16 fun days on another project and nothing got done around the house.

YEah I can relate. I have a ton of yard work and tree cutting to do.. Which sets back all my Computer work...... ITs tough to find a happy medium

Two toilet seats? With new hardware? Should take 15 minutes to do both right? Including disinfecting/cleaning.

LOL so you're timing me... Had to drive 30 minutes to the store find the one I wanted from a unorganized display wait in a long line to check out, drive home, the one in the basement was 30 years old, three hour plus a work break built into my contract.

Your like my kids when I make them clean the downstairs bathroom. Its a small bathroom but it takes them 4 hours to do a mediocre job.. Im just hoping they have mean bosses who beat them into a work ethic.. But Bosses today are just (expletive which would get me banned).

All kidding aside. I know the trouble of project work balancing and home life.. Its really hard.

I under stand the, "4 hours to do a mediocre job", my son needed dynamite under his bed to get him up to get to school, clean his room, RIGHT... He did turn out great by age 20.

My daughter just turned 17.. She is super Lazy. My son is starting HS soon. I remember I asked them to sweep the single flight of stairs going into the basement. 3 hours later I found them still at it and the floor was dirty! I went over their work in 30 seconds and found all the dirt. I told them "its a 15 minute task" "wouldn't you rather be doing anything else than this? Why are you making this into a long project?" They still do that on everything I ask them to do.. ITs like they like wasting their free time. I was in the military. I am quite good at doing a pristine job in a short period. Honestly I always had a good work ethic. I just am unable to see things from their point of view on these matters, makes no sense..

Im glad your son outgrew it.. Im hoping my kids will too.

Once they leave for College thier room is becoming my Gym.. I hope they get the not so subtle message. And I will reiterate the same line I have been telling them for years " I lived on my own at 16. Go figure it out".

it's not really your kids' fault, nor is it yours (probably)

we live in a dying culture, no one cares about anything - there is no drive to excel, reproduce, or even survive anymore amongst our people

I don't believe that, people do care for the future, the story is now in the 1st chapter of a new book. The big question is how to protect your family while the story unfolds.

We sure frankenthreaded this thread. Sometimes it happens.

Those are the best kinds of threads. We all have various interests and thoughts.. Who says we cant wax philosophical at times?
