Hi everyone, I am looking for an IBM Aptiva system recovery disc with part number 76H4685 (software version C1RUS1A) for my Aptiva 2159-S64. Hopefully someone can help me out!

Thank you

PM sent.

Also I am working on a solution for configuring the USB. This recovery package installs Win95A, which as far as I know will not support USB. I have another set of recovery CDs which have the same install package with Win95B, but in does not have the MWave driver but Crystal Audio (after the MWave debacle). If this works, I will let you know.

Thank you again! I just installed the software and it works perfectly! I had a different recovery CD without Mwave and the drivers that IBM had published online back in the day never made MIDI work. Wave and modem did work, but no MIDI sound. Now it works! I couldn't find the CD anywhere (archive.org, eBay, forums...) so you really helped me out!

About Mwave on the later Windows: apparently the newer drivers don't have proper MIDI support, but the rest works with them. You could try to use the Mwave drivers from the discs you sent me. I think you can install them by popping in the Diagnostics & Applications CD, and then pointing to the CD-ROM drive in the New Hardware Found wizard.

This might be interesting to you:

I have a Compaq Presario 3060 from the same month and year (Oct 1996) that has drivers for its USB ports from the factory install! I don't know how Compaq did this, but they did it.

Now, I also have a Sony VAIO PCV-70 from 1996 with USB, but with no USB support. I found out that you can upgrade Windows 95A to OSR 2 by changing a line in an inf file during the installation.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Start up the OSR2 setup as normal, from within Windows 95.
  2. When you are presented with the License Agreement dialog box, stop.
Don't click anything yet; do not click on click "Next".
  3. Open Start Menu (CTRL + ESC) and click "Run." Type "notepad" and click "OK".
  4. Open the file "setuppp.inf" in the directory C:\WININST0.400. This directory and its associated files were created by the OSR2 setup program.
  5. Find the line in the file with the text "[data]". Add the following line after it: "OEMUP=1". The text should look as follows:
    Code:
    [data]
    OEMUP=1
  6. Save the file and exit Notepad.
  7. Switch back to the OSR2 setup (using Alt+Tab) and continue with OSR2 installation.

After the upgrade, install the USB supplement and you're good to go.

This method worked for me to get USB working on the VAIO!
