I moved to a new place and all my computers haven't been touched in about a year and a half. I figured I better get them out of the garage since there are tons of mice I keep catching.
I fired up my IBM AT and was surprised to see it powered right up. I have three 5170s and the few times I let them sit the hard drive doesn't want to work right away, but it worked just fine.
I left it run for about 45 minutes while watching a movie. I heard a pop noise but I thought maybe a cable fell on the floor and caused the noise. Then I heard a hissing/buzzing noise and paused the movie.
The lights were off but I was suspicious it could be the monitor. I thought maybe someone was running water upstairs. But, yeah it was the monitor. I got up and turned the lights on and smoke started billowing out. Man, that stunk.
I haven't confirmed yet, but I am assuming it's a line filter capacitor.
The picture on the monitor was starting to get kind of crappy anyway so I'm sure it needed more than the line filter capacitors.
Anyone know of a place to get a cap kit for these?
