There are a few systems that use 8088s and 8086s in the PLCC form factor which could be upgraded to NEC V20s (uPD70108 and NEC V30s (uPD70116). I cannot seem to find any chips in that form factor for sale unlike the DIP packaged chips, which are readily available. Other than harvesting them from systems which use them, is there any way to obtain them? Are any DIP-to-PLCC adapters that will work?

You'll spend far less just getting a PLCC chip than using a weird adapter that generally doesn't exist.

You can get PLCC to DIP adapters, but going the other way is pretty much a design it yourself endeavor. I found one on Ebay for 32 pins (won't work for you) and it's stupid expensive:

For $83, you could buy a small pile of PLCC V20s.

The V30 in general, was far less popular than the V20 because fewer PCs used the 8086 CPU than the 8088. Good luck in your search--there's probably someone sitting on some somewhere.
