A nice little surprise in a recently purchased very clean 5160 was this Innoventions 'SideCard' RTC device that fits into and around a slot and leaves enough space for another card to fit on top. Well designed, and I can imagine there would have been demand for it at the time from people with no slots spare. I was able to find some original ads in old magazines and a brief post on twitter about it - the company is still going but the man behind the SideClock passed away a couple of years ago.

My problem is that I have no software for it. Under one of the stickers is an OKI chip that I assume is the RTC chip, but the model/details have been scratched off, no doubt to prevent people copying the idea at the time. I've tried the generic RTC software and all of the other software that definitely isn't noted to be for other chip types, found on Minuszerodegrees here:

None of them worked.

So if anyone has the SideClock software, now or in the future, please post here!

Thanks.

I don't have the software but that is a pretty clever design.

I wonder if the chip is an MSM5832; I found the part number googling “Oki Real time clock datasheet” and a supporting bit of evidence is that board is only connected to four of the slot data lines; said chip uses 4-bit I/O.

The guy on twitter pulled the sticker off and it's an M6242B.

That makes sense. Digging around that first part I found is very similar in bus and register layout but it’s waaaaay slower; you pretty much have to use a PIA/PIO chip to interface it. The one you named is fast enough to be directly bus interfaced to slow-ish CPUs. There’s only one other chip, probably a 74ls138 acting as the address decoder.

Thanks, I'd not seen that on Twitter. Have asked him if he can somehow share the files on that disk.

If you do get the files, please post them here for posterity 🤓
