is this right?

This morning i experimented to see if i disconnected the battery so the bios would "forget"
since this is a solder-in battery I removed J1 jumper.
the outcome was interesting:
1. i didn't join the cult of the magic blue smoke!!
2. there is no hanging up during boot. it boots fast too.

however the bios didn't forget the settings. i even unplugged the power cord for 5 minutes.
powering up 3 times it worked correctly!
when i replaced the jumper the computer was back to its old behavior and hangs after the ram check.

perhaps the bios is corrupt?

I am a little confused. In your photo showing JP1, I see a battery. Where is J1?

To be clearer: "J1" implies a jack that accepts a matching connector (to something). "JP1" implies a jumper; it's either shorted or open; no other connections. A silly little letter makes a lot of difference.

JP1 tests the battery current it says. i was confused too..i love having insomnia !!

in my experience on newer boards as you know, it says c_batt with 3 pins for disconnection
of the battery to drain the cmos memory. 1&2 battery connected, 2&3 battery disconnected.

J1 has 3 pins, one marked neg & one not marked, pin 3 is gone with #4 marked as positive.
usually, there is a white or black plastic part of a" jack". also, those pins are longer. to me if its just pins its a jumper
says the cowboy computer tech.

anyway, with no battery testing and computer boots with no issues.
