Just Purchase an Apple ][ Plus

Very excited about it as it is the very first computer I ever used and it set the stage for the rest of my life. Literally. I learned so much from this computer I decided I just had to have the original (for me). I didn't even consider the ][e, a number of which were added to the schools inventory the following year. It is a 1979 model, has a 16KB memory expansion card, Disk II drive w/interface card, an Epson card of some sort (I assume it's a printer card, not really interested in it), and the Sup-R-Mod II adapter (so I can use it on a TV I no longer have...lol). It's in clean condition but...

...it is non-functional and I have no idea what that means (I literally just purchased it and now I await its arrival). I have no idea if this means it doesn't power on or if it powers on and something else doesn't work. Not concerned as I am familiar with electronics and the first thing I will do is test the power supply. One thing I love about the ][ Plus is all the chips are socketed making repair easy. One of the reasons I purchased this particular unit is how clean it is and it gives me the opportunity to do some troubleshooting (I have fond memories of going to a computer store and watching a tech repair these systems, at the time I had no clue what he was doing...now I do!).

Super, super excited and just had to post.

One of the little logic testers and ram testers will help. A scope is very useful (to me, essential tool)

Mine had a blown 6502 and a failed RAM chips.

I've been considering purchasing a scope but really haven't seen much need given the few times I would use it. I do work with someone who has a lot of older Apple computer equipment some of which needs repaired. I could use it for that but with all that's going on in my life I wouldn't be able to focus on it. Maybe this purchase will be the incentive I need to purchase one.

I wanted to update this thread regarding the status of my new Apple ][ Plus. Some of you may know I started another thread regarding the power supply and discussed some of my progress there. Today I got the system operational, at least to the BASIC prompt. The problem ended up being one of the bank one memory chips. I replaced it with a known working one and the system starts to the BASIC prompt. There may be others so once I get it reassembled I'll run a thorough memory test on it. I am not sure what the issue was with the failure to power on. All of a sudden it just started powering on (see the power supply thread). Overall very satisfied. If you ever have an Apple II system that has issues check the memory first. It's a well known problem.
