Hi,

I posted a message two months ago during development, but now my KIM Uno is done…

It is a handheld KIM-I clone -- just to make sure: done as a non-profit hobby project.

It costs just $10 in parts, and for the next few weeks, I can send PCBs/kits at cost price to anyone who is interested in it. Shipping is $10-15 unfortunately, Mr. Postman is not so much non-profit. The PCB gerbers and firmware will remain on my web site if anyone wants to create the board afterwards.

The size of a calculator, it contains the original KIM-1, of course. But some hard/software extensions make this KIM-1 into a pretty effective 6502 programmable calculator, with non-volatile memory to keep code stored.

The idea was that I like coding in 6502, but I never have much use for it. Small calculation programs might be the answer. :)

Also, some of the best KIM-1 software I could find is built in to extra KIM-1 ROMs. So Microchess is there, and some programming tools like disassembler, etc.

Here is the site:

And here's the subpage on the 6502 programmable calculator part of it:

The contact link shows up as a potential hijacking attempt in my browser but I'm definitely in for a #2 if you can PM me.

I bought one of these from Oscar personally at VCFMW some years ago. Finally got around to building it tonight. Works great! Looking forward to trying the new firmware for Apple I and Cosmac 1802.

If anyone in the US is interested in a complete Kim Uno kit, I've been offering them for a couple of years now. An eBay search on "kim uno" will turn up my listings - though I offer a discount to VCFED forum members, so I suggest you to buy direct.

You can contact me at Google's well-known mail service where my username is "drlegendre". Again, this offer is for stateside members only - overseas members are encouraged to purchase from Oscar.

Thanks,
Bill

For anyone thinking about buying this, do. I love the kim-1 but can’t afford one so I got this. Great size, price and everything. I had looked into buying more for friends in the uk but shipping was the same price as the unit so held off for gifts. Buy one and get the first book of kim pdf and you’re away.

Has anyone made use of the I/O port yet? maybe a cassette interface for it?
The stock firmware uses the built-in EEPROM as an emulated cassette drive.. though that *may* only be for the Apple 1 emulation mode.. I can't recall ATM.

It's only 1K of space, but that's still useful on such a humble device as KIM-1.

Yes, I was more looking to interface with the kim-uno the same as I could with a kim-1. In terms of actually loading and saving data there is just the ardunio. It always looks better when showing people what it would have been like when they have things they can touch (play button on the casseette)

My only thought would involve using the currently unused A6/A7 lines on the Pro Mini.. one each for I & O perhaps? They're easy enough to access, even on a built unit. If you're crafty, you might even be able to borrow another line for motor control, though it's by no means required.
