Inherited a Line Printer VII among many other things Color Computer. Not one of my favorite Radio Shack printers but as it came in free and managed to clean it to showroom condition, the old sentimental thing kicked in and decided to keep it - back on my first days of computing (1980-81) these were the printers on the school computer lab that carried me through numerous print reports. Restoring it to full working condition is now a mission.

The printer powers up, makes an ugly mechanical clacking noise (that big solenoid on the gears side), hammer caddy only moves a bit past half way *only* if it is in its home position when power is applied. I don't recall if the caddy is supposed to do a full end to end sweep and then return to home on each power up - don't have the service manual on this thing.

After a series of trials I got the printer to print a single line, and do carriage feeds, and found that after each print operation my CoCo (from where I am running the PRINT#-2 commands) will hang unless I manually return the caddy to its home position - looks to me like the spring is not strong enough to return it home by itself.

Any ideas or maybe a pointer to the service manual will be appreciated. No worries, I do my vintage printing on a DMP-130 and a KX-P1180 ;)
