Kind of misleading in some respects. Samsung, for instance, goes on to become the leader in solid state drives, as well as Hitachi.

The diagram is of Hard Disks thought and not Solid State - if it just said Disks then I'd agree with you.

Lots of names I recognise/remember and quite a few I've never heard of! :)

I know you are referring to HD's and not SSD's, but I would have left off 'Manufactures'. Some might get the impression that some of those company's are no longer around. Just being picky. ;)

Heh, the complete list of 221 companies is paywalled, the public list is only 83.
I just had a look at "CSC Hard Drive Bible" from 1996 - it lists 93 companies, from Alps to Zentec.

Similar lists for other computer products also would be long, see eg. graphic cards/chipsets...

For a short time, Maxtor branded its Miniscribe-made drives as "Maxtor Colorado" with a simple paper band around the HDA concealing the fact that the casting had "Miniscribe" molded into it. I have one such drive--a 670MB ESDI model.

Also Priam->ATASI (same drives, different name on the stick-on sector map).

How about Ex-Cell-O? Telex? Ampex?
