M7555 w/ accessories on eBay - Worth it?

Hi All;
SMP, In my Humble opinion, I would say "yes", since it comes with a Board, cables and other things that I can't tell what all is there..
And, If it is what you need, then I would say 'Go for it' ..
Now I am NO QBus Expert and so I don't know what the going price of QBus stuff is, that You will need to ask others who have QBus Equipment..
THANK YOU Marty

Depends on the price, but right now - yes, I'd say it's worth it.

  • RQDX3 - pretty normal looking, not a bad price.
  • Without looking it up, the other board looks like it's one of the RQDXE family. Only really needed in multi-drive configurations - usually where an external drive is employed. [note missing cabinet kit] Might also be useful when the BA23 drive distribution panel (or like) is absent.
  • One of the cables is not part of that board set (4x10-pin headers at one end and 40-pin at the other) - it appears to be the serial cable for a DLV11-J or DLVJ1 4 port SLU.

The M9058 Signal Distribution Board is used in a BA123. It connects between the M7555 RQDX3 and up to 4 RD hard drives, or an RX floppy drive with up to 2 RD hard drives.

The 17-00862-01 cable connects between the M9058 Signal Distribution Board and up to 4 front panel RD console boards.

Of course you can always use the M9058 Signal Distribution Board with the M7555 RQDX3 in a backplane other than a BA123 or BA23 so you don't have to kludge up your own wiring harness between the M7555 RQDX3 and hard drives and floppy drives. Besides the standard configuration in my BA123 I have a couple of the M9058 Signal Distribution Boards that come in handy at times when working with a backplane other than the BA23 with has its own built in signal distribution board.

That's quite a reasonable price, and they're not splitting the board & cables and selling them separately like a lot of DEC resellers on eBay.

I think it is worth it ($50). I like the M9058 very much. It saves a ton of time. I use one in my test backplane. Basically, unless you have a BA23 or you are willing to wire wrap a breakout board, you want an M9058.
