Hex module described as Microprocessor, DMC-11 code, 1K ram program space.
RAM is Intel D2115AL x ~24, PROMs are 4X N82S112N, ALU is 2X 74S181N3, it's an odd beast.
I wonder if there is anything useful this thing could do?

KMC11-A AUXILIARY PROCESSOR
(KS system only)

The KMC11-A is an auxiliary processor, complete with memory, that interfaces to the UNIBUS. The
KMC11 improves the performance of the DECsystem-10 computer systems by performing timeconsuming
system functions in parallel with the host CPU, thereby off-loading it. It is especially suited to
controlling I/O operations, such as data communications and analog I/O, that require extensive
intelligence.

The KMC11 is a high-speed MSI microprocessor (300 nsec instruction time), uses 16-bit microinstructions,
and operates on 8-bit data paths. Its 1024 16-bit word writable control memory contains the microprogram
and is loaded by the host processor. A 1024 8-bit byte data memory stores frequently used information for
high-speed access by the microprogram. NPR UNIBUS interface provides access to control, status,
and data registers of one or more peripherals on the UNIBUS. This enables low cost programmed-I/O devices
to operate as if they had an intelligent DMA capability.

An external connector allows the KMC 11 to be connected directly to a high-speed peripheral such as a
DMC11 synchronous line unit. The full-duplex 8-bit parallel interface is well suited to custom designed
interfacing.

The KMC11 is complete on a single printed circuit module and includes the microprocessor, control
memory, data memory, UNIBUS interface, and external connector.

KMC11
A general purpose peripherial processor using bit slice ALU (74181). It could do DMA cycles to main memory, access the I/O page and generate interrupts. It was used with the synchronous line unit (DMC11) to implement DDCMP protocols. Also used with DZ-11 to ease the burden of interrupt per output character by implementing pseudo DMA in software. One board could run 5 DZ-11's.

Lots of useful things, in the are of protocol offload.
If I'm not mistaken, this board's designer is a regular here in this forum.

-Dave

We've been discussing exactly that on the HECnet list for the past couple of days. We'll be doing something similar at LSSM.

-Dave

I have a KMC/DMP that I will eventually put in my KS10 so I can have a synchronous serial DECnet connection to a VAX.
Ah, there you go.
I should have been clearer in my question, I know the board would have been useful back in the day but was wondering what application would remain for hobbyist uses in the context of computer collecting and demonstration. That is, "I have one and is there anything cool I can do with it?"

I promise I'm not trying to be a dick here...but as with pretty much everything else, it's useful today for the same things it was useful for when it was new. In this case, networking. Our own use case at LSSM is to get a DECsystem-2020 talking DECnet. Mike's application is identical, just in a home rather than a museum environment.

Congrats on having one in the first place; they're not all that common, as Unibus boards go.

All good, I should have framed my question better, but it got answered. As someone without a PDP-10, only a couple UNIBUS VAXen and no aspirations of having more, it's not something that sounds like I'll have much use for. Good to know.

It turns out I have a M7867 as well. I don't know if there are more things in a DUP11 or not, but I gather they play well together.
You just never know what you will find in the back of the cabinet.

From EK-DUP11-MM-003_DUP11Maint.pdf:

There is only one version of the DUP11- the DUP11-DA; it consists of six items (refer to Figure 2-1 ).
M7867 Bit Synchronous Interface
BC22F-25 Cable
BC08S-1 0 Cable
H325 Test Connector
H300 1 Distribution Panel

I've got one of these boards as well, came in my 11/44... Was being used with the 4 x DZ11's that are in the same system.

It's definitely a nice looking board:
