The 5170 has 512K onboard with 128K backfill from an expansion card listed below with the other cards:
1. HD/FD Controller Card
2. IBM Personal System/2 Display Adapter
3. IBM 2.0 Megabyte Expanded Memory Adapter (provides the 128 to make 640)
4. IBM Enhanced Memory Expansion Adapter (also provides primary serial and parallel)
5.
6.
7.
8. IBM PC Voice Communications Option Adapter
If #8 is installed when the computer boots the driver that makes #3 (the expanded memory) available, it will error; count up the 2048 and then display:
Specified page address conflicts with installed adapter ad address D800.
Possible 16KB page available at address CC00, D000, D400, DC00, E800, EC00
I tinker with CONFIG.SYS and change the line in it; DEVICE=C:\DOS\XMA2EMS.SYS FRAME=CC00; if I change that CC00 to anything else it will either give an adapter fault and not even count up the 2 megs or give me the same error as above.
I've looked at the guide to operations for #8 the VCO, and tried setting the jumpers on the card for different groups that I don't have other expansion cards in;
GROUP 2 wants to know if I have
EGA
PC Network Adapter
3278/79 Emulation Adapter
GROUP 3 wants to know if I have
Alt Async Comm Adapter
Alt BSC Comm Adapter
Alt PC Network Adapter
Alt Serial/Parallel Adapter - Serial
Cluster Adapter
SDLC Comm Adapter
GROUP 4 wants to know if I have
Async Comm Adapter
BSC Comm Adapter
Serial/Parallel Adapter - Serial
SDLC Comm Adapter
GROUP 7 wants to know if I have
Cluster Adapter
Data Acquisition Adapter
GPIB Adapter
Monochrome and Printer Adapter
Printer Adapter
Serial/Parallel Adapter - Parallel Adapter
According to the GTO, it says if you have cards in all four groups, contact your IBM representative (well anyone of you in here) for help in configuring your system.
I can get by without having secondary serial or parallel ports but I'd really like to be able to use the VCO in this PC AT.
Any ideas or suggestions?
