According to the document referenced below the MicroVAX Diagnostic Monitor, Version 5.0, Release 139 was available a CD-ROM media, where QZ-K32AA-H8 was the order number of the CD-ROM media kit.

So the question is, does anyone happen to have a copy of that MDM CD-ROM? Or any versions of MDM on CD-ROM?

These release notes describe restrictions, undocumented features, and other essential information about the MicroVAX Diagnostic Monitor (MDM) Version 5.0, Release 139. These release notes supersede all other MDM documentation.

I snagged a ton of media with a Micro pdp11 and a MicroVAX (or it might have been a II) last year. If SWMBO gives me a break from chores, this afternoon, I'll go look through it and see what I can find.

I would have replied on cctalk, too, but I somehow fell of the list last year and my application to rejoin is pending.

I already have an image of the MicroVAX Diagnostic Monitor, Release 136, Version V4.7 tape.

I'd really like to find an image of the MicroVAX Diagnostic Monitor, Version 5.0, Release 139 on CD-ROM as it supports VAX 4000 systems. Plus booting from a CD-ROM would be a lot easier to set up than trying to deal with tapes. In addition it also supports booting the diagnostics over the network from an InfoServer which would be ideal for systems with network adapters but no SCSI adapters.

Sorry, no joy. I nipped over there just now and most of the CD-ROMs were PC stuff. I did find a set of Micro pdp-11 diagnostics, on 5.25" floppy, that don't seem to have been archived anywhere that google can find, but I'll start a separate thread for that, so as not to hijack yours.

No images of the MicroVAX Diagnostic Monitor, Version 5.0, Release 139 CD-ROM distribution media have turned up. Still hoping to find one some day.

Someone out there was kind enough to respond privately to me with an image of a hard drive that had MicroVAX Diagnostic Monitor, Version 5.0, Release 139 installed on it. That person was not sure how it originally got installed on the hard drive when that was done.

I was able to boot that hard drive image on a SIMH KA655 VAX. Then I was able to burn an image to a CD-ROM and boot a real KA640 system from that CD-ROM. Used a somewhat unusual configuration, a SCSI RRD45 CD-ROM drive behind an HSD10 DSSI-SCSI bridge, attached to the built-in KA640 DSSI controller. The MDM complains about an unknown DSSI device. It doesn't have HSD10 support. Otherwise all of the other diagnostics I tried so far work.

I would have booted with the RRD45 attached to the KFQSA except that the KA640 does not support booting from the KFQSA, only VAX 4000 CPUs support that. Later I'll try booting with the CD-ROM drive attached to a CMD CQD-220 SCSI controller. I imagine that should work, except for maybe errors about an unknown MSCP controller. I have some spare DSSI drives I picked up a while back that I haven't tested yet. I'll have to see if I can get them going and try copying the MDM files to one of them and booting from it.

MicroVAX Diagnostic Monitor, Version 5.0, Release 139 supports a lot of the Q-bus devices that are supported by XXDP, and some that aren't supported by XXDP, such as the DSV11 (as far as I know). So MDM might be a useful alternative to using XXDP for Q-bus VAX systems.

Is it possible that the CD-ROM .iso could be made available for download?

Would like to use it to test KA650/RQDX3/RD32 system, especially to format the RD32.

Have much earlier version of MDM on RX50 floppies if anyone is interested.

I have a 4.8 MDM on TK50, which I use on my MicroVAX II systems.
It's available here

Here is a description, how to get the Files back on Tape again.

Maybe it helps.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it appears you need an operational VAX VMS system with a TK type tape subsystem. I have neither, although am trying to get to the operational VAX VMS system. Once my DEC SCSI CD-ROM drive arrives, I can load VMS on a UC07/RZ25-E disk system, but I need MDM or XXDP to format an RD32 that is on a RQDX3 controller with a RX50. The RX50 works and I've been able to load a very early version of MDM from the Internet and going through PUTR get in on RX50 diskettes which boot and load, but it doesn't know what an RD32 is.
