So...a friend and I were doing diagnostics work on my bad Expansion Interface board. Part way through, we discovered that my power supplies have both crapped out. At the same time. sigh Today I had them plugged in and in use for longer than I've run them to date, and I suspect the heat from being on that long just finally killed them due to age.

From what I've read, the most common issue is the fuse. I have no problem cutting them up, but before I go to that effort I'm wondering if I'm not better off just building a replacement supply and leaving this as-is? I've found this page on Ira's site which explains how to build a 240V power supply, and looks to also have the particulars for a US 120V version as well.

I'm assuming just building a new supply is the better long-term solution?

Edit: I went ahead and popped one of them open, and sure enough, the fuse is bad.

Kevin,
You can try replacing the fuse, if you know for sure that there is nothing that will blow it right away. I've got a schematic of the
inner workings of that power supply. It might be a handy thing for you to have.

I have both my supplies on a power strip. I do not leave them plugged into the AC Line all the time, as they do get very warm.

Yeah, I normally leave them plugged into a power strip that's turned off as I don't see a reason to pay to run transformers I'm not using.

I'll have to do some searching locally to see if I can source a new fuse. I suspect it just wore out as up until some point today, they were working just fine.
