Hello All -

I recently needed some properly formatted RX50 disks, and I found on EBAY a set of 6, marked as "WPS-PLUS/POS V1.0 BIN RX50". I am pretty sure that "WPS" refers to a word processing system, but can anyone enlighten me as to what the "POS" refers to and what computer/OS they might be for?

Thanks, Jon.

I don't think this has been archived, others might know
I saw them when they were listed, but forgot about them to bid.

I can make the images available, but I don't have a server to host them on...

Could the P/OS be loaded on to my PDP-11/53, or was it specifically tied to the Professional?

P/OS was pro only, but it's just a very whittled down RSX11 so you aren't really missing a whole lot

also, al runs bitsavers, the images should be small enough that you can just email them to him, maybe in a zip archive

It was a lot more than "whittled down". Had a number of virtual directory features even M+ never got. I'd give teeth for a version I could gen with split I/D support and cache.

If you want send me the images and I'll put them on my web server. I have spss/pro there and that is a fun application to have and use to this day....

@jmdhuse I'd be happy to send you some real blank RX50s in exchange for those diskettes. I've been collecting DEC Pro software.
Unfortunately I'm away from my stuff and will be for about a month.
Could you wait until then?

No problem, the disks aren't going anywhere. Where in the wide world are you located?

Davibear, what DEC Pro software do you have? Any programming languages?

Yes. It's hard to tell how many sets are complete, but for languages I have:
  • BASIC-PLUS/RT PRO V3 (4 diskettes, Basic for RT-11)
  • PRO/BASIC 1.1 (1 diskette)
  • PRO/DATATRIEVE 1.0 (2 diskettes)
  • PRO/DATATRIEVE 2.0 (2 diskettes)
  • PRO/RDT V1.1 (1 diskette)
  • PRO/TOOL KIT F77 V5.3 (1 diskette)
  • PRO/TOOL KIT F-77 V5.0 (1 diskette)
  • PRO/TK COBOL-81 V2.1 (2 diskettes)
  • PRO/TOOL KIT PASCAL V1.1 (2 diskettes -- sadly the first one is having reading problems)
In addition I have applications like CP/M, DECnet, P/OS hard disk versions 1.7, V2, V2.0A, V3.0, V3.2, 20/20, PRO/COMM diskette V1.5, hard disk V3.0, PRO/OFFICE WORKSTATION V1.4, PRO/SALES DEMO V1.5, etc.

Is there any chance I could get a copy of the floppies for PRO/BASIC and PRO/Tool F77 V5.3? I would like to trying some simple coding on my PRO 350. I could write up the results. I can do Pascal too if the reading problems can be overcome.

Apparently I fat-fingered the F77 version: it's V5.2, not V5.3. I've temporarily put that floppy onto my public Google drive: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/10xx2IZJRykYOH-IiDIjgVnbLb3xgC12f?usp=drive_link.
There's a more-recent version of PRO/BASIC (V1.4) available from ftp://ftp.update.uu.se/pub/professional/PRO174. You'll have to find a browser that still does ftp or use an ftp client. In addition you'll need an LHarc decompressor and a .td0 converter. If you don't have any one of these things you can use the disk image I created at https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/11daM5eZPvjnBXP9oy3mYDWXea2ggu6EP?usp=drive_link.
