I've got a really nice AppleColor RGB monitor for my IIgs but the screen is slightly dim and out of focus if I adjust the brightness/contrast. I've looked around and it seems like this is easily fixable by adjusting some knobs on the inside of the monitor. I have never cracked the case of a CRT and am terrified to do so - if there is anyone on here who can either perform the adjustment or make recommendations for where to take the monitor I'd appreciate it!

I did mine the other day. Just be very careful and use plastic tools for adjusting the monitor while it is powered on.
Inside every crt, there is a flyback transormer, they generally look like this.

You have 2 pots on them, screen and focus. The screen is a overall brightness control, be very careful and slow when adjusting this, a little goes a long way, and if you crank it up too far most monitors will go into shutdown mode to protect themselves and you. The focus pot should explain itself.

It took me maybe 5 mins to adjust mine, and it looks great now. I used the config screen built into the gs so I had alot of text and straight lines to look at while making my adjustments.

Later,
