I just finished an initial release of my GIF viewer for TRS-80 Model I, III and 4. You can download it (with source) here:

The intent is to support a wide range of the original TRS-80 line. It works on the common DOSes and will display in 128 x 48, 160 x 72 or use Tandy/Grafyx hires cards when available.
Those with Tandy hires cards get smooth scrolling of images larger than the screen, even images that are too tall. Model III users get a special 128 x 192 graphics mode (flickery though it may be). Both of those use beam effects but will work on 50 and 60 Hz machines and any type of Model 4.
I wanted to support the various Model I hires adapters and the Model II itself but ran out of steam. If you're willing to test it on real hardware I'll write the detection and drivers. Especially if you can provide technical specs. The drivers themselves are not too difficult; the trick is figuring out robust detection of the hardware. Ideally I'd like a single "gif/cmd" executable that runs on any TRSDOS-ish TRS-80.
