I found an sc1224 recently. Plugged it into a known working 520stfm and nothing appeared on the screen. I plugged it into the sm124 that it was originally tested with months ago, and only got a loud buzzing. What could be the problem?
Before looking for anything more complicated, be aware that it is sometimes surprisingly easy to plug the 13-pin monitor plug into an ST upside down. You might not think it possible but the extra 13th pin disappears into the hollow where the 'groove' on the opposite side of the plug is meant to go, and the 'groove' can be persuaded to go into the gap on the other side without much extra pressure.
If you do insert the plug in upside down, the usual symptom is no picture and a loud buzz on the audio.
I think you must be right. I looked at the pins, none bent, not that logically that would create the disturbance as described. Didn't plug it back into that monitor, but another, and cpu is fine. I'll try it all again tomorrow.
