Old floppy controller

My searches came to the same. But then I reminded myself I don't actually need 5/10gb drives to futz around and go "oook, lookie the tape drive!"

I am presently constructing what will ultimately be my "tape machine" with as many different drives as I have. I figure that's as good a use as any for my dual PIII.

I said memories, not clearly defined but very hazy ones... :)

Speaking of software, I ran across my unversioned original copy of PCTools Deluxe yesterday, as well as an Archive FasTape version 4.0. Also in the caddy, MSDOS 4.0, MS Windows Presentation Manager 2.0, Windows 3.0 and 3.1, and two sets of Windows Sound System 1.0. Time to fire up the Greaseweazle...

Turns out PCTools is V5.1, the README recommends DOS 2.x users upgrade to 3.2. :)

Greaseweazle read through them all in one pass, had a couple of retries but full read accomplished.

dd'd the bunch for grins, all but one disk read through first pass, and it only took one seek to be successful at full read.

I had a chance to grab a copy of windows 3.0 ages ago and didnt take it. This school worked at in the early 2000s had a whole bookshelf full of every kind of then obsolete software you could imagine. Multiple copies of windows 3.1, DOS, the one 3.0, tons more.

At the time I merely thought all the stuff was old. If I'd taken it I'd have the best library now. I wonder what happened to that stuff. Probably all got thrown in a dumpster when the school folded.

Just the disks. At least this set... I just remembered a bin loaded with boxed sets of software that is currently buried in a closet. I'll take a peek there this weekend.
