Overclocking, 1987 style

I just ran across a back-of-the-magazine ad in a 1987 issue PC Tech Journal from a company called XCelX. They sold continuously-variable (front-panel knob) synthesized CPU clock add-ons for ATs and 286 clone boxes. Frequency range was 6 to 13 MHz.

They also sold a separate variable speed control for your 80287.

Anyone ever see one of these in the flesh?

I seen one of those back in the day! My friend had it on his computer. As I recalled it would not run at top speed with out crashes, had to "dial in" the max speed for your system. Was fun playing games while changing the CPU speed with the knob. He was lucky to have $$$(daddy's) and had all the intresting things to play with.
