hey all! i may potentially have a line on an IBM PC server 500 with a P/390, and reading through the documentation a bit i found that IBM used to produce memory expansion daughterboards for these cards. with the P/390 itself being as rare as it is i can't imagine the expansion boards are any easier to find, so it got me thinking: would it be possible to DIY a memory expansion board for this card? has anyone tried? i may have a friend or two who would be willing to collaborate on this so any info or documentation you can provide is appreciated. thanks in advance!

Not sure but from what I remember the card in the 500 usually includes the RAM expansion.
you're right, and i am lucky enough that this one comes with the 96MB version, but as i tend to always think about contingencies that is mostly where my head is at- being able to replace it if it should fail or provide an option for P/390 owners who never had one.

a small update, i have been chatting with some friends and we have kicked off a project to (hopefully) expand the memory capacity of the P/390. we are hoping to see if it is capable of addressing >128MB of RAM, and if so, produce design files so that others can expand their boards as well. the project repo is here if you wish to follow along (or contribute, we welcome that too!), it is licensed under CERN's permissive OHL: https://github.com/rsxrsxrsx/MCA-P390-MemExp

right now we don't have much, but hopefully we will soon :)

Wowww !! you are a lucky lucky (lucky) one !!!

i was searching for one like this, to go either on a ibm PC server, or on my good old RS6000 (i've managed to buy on ebay some memory card with memory sticks) and i've now quad memory card :) but your card is my dream lol.

So as i could not have this one (very hard to find), well i've bought an ibm system i5 with a 3476 and i'm playing with it.
(i'm really fan of ibm ;) )
Regards.
