Pet 4016 causes house rcd panel to trip

Thought my pet had died when the house fuse panel tripped and I was left listening to the pet 'fizz' for 10 seconds.

After getting the power back on I checked under the hood of the pet and could see no visible signs of trouble. I risked powering it on again and it started perfectly, the rcd tripped again an hour later, nothing else in the house was running or seemed relevant to the rcd trip, the pet seems fine.

Could something be wrong in the pet causing it to trip the fuse board? Had the pet from new so hope to keep it alive for many more years.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

The problem is probably the mains filter capacitor, which is either behind the transformer or inside the power inlet (if your PET has an inlet with a plug/socket). They have a tendency to dry up over time and (sometimes) cause short circuits. In most cases when they explode, they don't cause any damage to the rest of the circuitry, so your PET is probably okay after you replace it. I've also seen people who just leave it out after it explodes.
