hello all. I...am the retro master.

I come from many forums.
I do not know much about computers, just game systems. I have successfully hacked an NES and atari 2600.

how did I hack them? I turned them into portables.

the atari is still in progress. this is an older pic. it is much more complete now.

portable building is quite easy. just wire up a screen, regulator, and battery, plus a control board, and it works.

my site is almost dead. http://portableuniverse.forumcircle.com/index.php

however, you can learn the progress of these systems by clicking on the tutorials. they are not done, but maybe if we had some more users, I would be motivated.

I AM NOT BLOGGING!! DO NOT LOCK THIS THREAD!!!

benheck was prolly THE worst site to go if you are a n00b. I have had experience there. it is bad.
DO NOT JOIN!!!

I am saying this to you as I think some of you may be quite interested in the art of portabilizing.

please do not lock this topic.

if any of you are interested, pm me.

or join my site. which would be apreciated.

if any of you are into hardware electronics like wiring and stuff, portable building is for you.

thankyou

I just tinker and recently got myself a gameboy advance, and with the new Atari coming out AND having to wait in several lines the past few days for various reasons, handhelds have been really intriguing me. I was thinking of getting a Genesis3 and making it portable, somehow, with a screen from maybe a PSOne or whatever I can get cheap. But that won't happen for a while (got a lot doin already). But I picked the Gen3 cause it's already small and I'm familiar enough with rearranging internal components.

the ps1 screen is almost always perfect for any portable.

it accepts RGB video as well.

in fact, the NESP I built uses it.

go ahead and try it out with the genesis.

remember that threre already was a Genesisp, the nomad.;)

The Genny3 is the perfect system. W/ the Radica clones, you're somewhat limited to what games will run on it, & plus the Gen3 is only a few inches in length & width, & probably under 2 centimeters in height.

Yeah, that is because it uses a passive matrix STN display. I own a nomad. pretty good, but it could be better.

If it were TFT active matrix, it would look alot better.

And, the radica is hard to work with.
Genny 3 is better.

you mean the flashback 3?

your sig at my forum said:
Wanted: Atari Flashback Portable

which version?

Curt Vendel has been telling us over at Atariage (and I've been yelling it here) that there is going to be a Flashback2 Portable unit coming soon. TFT screen, some kind of outside interface (usb, card slot, unknown). It'll have all of the games that are on the FB2 and the ability to get other roms, like homebrews, into it via the outside interface. You can get lots more information over at atariage, under dedicated consoles.

The FB3 is a seperate project, and I want one of those, too. But that'll come out later, unknown when.

I answered your PM over at your forum, might as well say it here. I wouldn't mind seeing some kind of atari portable embedded in a Jaguar controller. It's pretty hefty and can handle larger mobos. Or something like that.

I cannot believe ive never heard of this.

I'm glued to the atari system news all the time.

Yeah, i'm having... Technical difficulties at Portable Universe. The system rejects my authority! That way, unless I contact phpbb, I can only communicate to you through this site for now. This is why you have not heard a response to your pm there. I can't even see the homepage!!!

A jaguar controller eh? It could work. The flashback motherboard is quite small.
But, you would have to have a really small screen though.
And it takes standard 9 volts. Which means a small battery, but less power hours.
standard 9 volts do not have much mAH life.

I was wondering what was up with the response thing. Technical difficulties I understand.

Maybe not an actual controller, but a case styled like one. Just slick looking to me. Did you find all the very long threads about the FB2? It's heavy reading and you need time to catch up. Worth it to be on the ball, though.

I also had a dream about an Atari branded Linux handheld, but it looks like that'll go nowhere, there's no new thread for a long while. There's the GP2X, which is neat but I really would have liked it to be an Atari product. The GP2X is kind of expensive. I think they could have made one cheaper. I figger a snall SBC with a screen attached, kinda like the GP2X. To compete with it. I know a lot of Linux people here in the states would like one if for nothing else to play on.

all of my moderators say the page boots up for them fine.

but it says 'page cannot be displayed'.

plus, I think it has to do with something about my ISPs.

atari2600a's site, where I happen to be an admin, it wont let me itnto the control panel! it just loads to a blank page.

I think someone, on benheck, who really dislikes me must have made up alot of stuff about me to cox communications. (my ISP)

every site im admin on wont let me into the control panel.

this is another reason you should NEVER join benheck.

do you know the AGE of those people? I made a poll:

11-16 years of age. these people are very immiature for doing this.

so I made my own forum that is better. but with no members..

if I cant get into the control panel, then portable universe is done.

that is possible. but dont you think linux, an OS, would be hard to fit into a handeheld that isnt a laptop?

hard to have on a handheld? Nah! It's been done already, the GP2X is one. Granted it'll have to be a very specific port of Linux for the hardware involved but it isn't impossible.
