after dodging the bullet for decades, this afternoon I got the scratching sound follow by a pop on the //e power supply. then I get to watch the magic smoke vents from the seams of the case...

power supply finally went...

So did it just pop and smoke? Or pop and smoke and stop working?
If it just popped and smoked, it's probably the EMI filter cap, it will be up near the power jack. Cut it out and keep on trucking.

As TX-Dj said It will still work. Just open it up and pull the offending beast out. May have to drill out a couple of rivets to get it open. Will be near power input and gold in color with it sides blown open. Kinda like an alien was inside and wanted out!
