A few years ago I purchased two Powerbook 145B laptops in working order, except for the hinges. Both hinges on each laptop have seized up and are very stiff. So far I have tried lubricating them with faucet grease to no avail and every other guide online says to replace the hinge which I'd rather not since parts for these models are scarce. The only other solution I've seen is soaking them in transmission fluid but I wanted to get some more input before I try that.

Did you remove the old grease before re-lubricating them? Otherwise, it will have no effect.

I have done dozens of these, and Timo is correct - you need to remove the old grease first. I soak them in Mass Airflow Sensor Cleaner (it is a nice solvent for this work and does not hurt plastics) and work the hinge (back and forth, open and closed), without disassembling it. Following that, lubricate the parts and work them until they move freely by hand. I'm not sure that I would want transmission fluid, or its smell, inside my Mac.
