PS/2 Model 60 Question

Hello,

I've recently aquired a PS/2 Model 60-071. I have downloaded and created the reference disk for it. It boots with errors 161 and 163. I have put in the disk and pressed F1, and it momentarily accesses the disk, but then goes straight to basic. Any suggestions? I have already re-written the disk on multiple PCs. Thanks.

My first guess is that your floppy drive is simply bad. You can try a DOS boot disk and see if it'll go.

DOS boot disk does the exact same thing... I can't find a replacement drive on ebay or anywhere. Any ideas where I could obtain one?

Ebay has the drives once in a while. You will need to get a new CMOS battery after you get the new floppy or you will see the error 161, 163 every time you boot.

i know a guy that has a ton of PS/2 floppy drives (and a few PS/2 systems too) that he's always willing to sell, i can check and see what he's asking for them, i know he has at least 40 FDD and they all work. He also has a ton of the MFM hard drives and the Direct Bus drives as well.

he's going to be moving in a few months and wants to get rid of the stuff, so i'd imagine he'd be willing to let em go pretty cheap. I'll check with him tomorrow.

the guy has a garage full of stuff, so i'll see what other goodies he has too, as i think he has a ton of old ram as well (he's been doing it for over 30 years), and i'll post what i find.

oh a majority of it wont get junked, i will make sure of that.. because there's tons of useful old parts in there that can be used, and im sure people on here could use them too, ill just slide him a few hundred bucks for a nice truckfull of the older parts, i know he'd take that.

He's just trying to get rid of the stuff at this point, but im really the only one who knows about it so i pretty much get first dibs until mid-july. Just have to wait for my next commission check to slide him the cash since i was off work for a little over a month with spinal meningitis and just got back not too long ago.

I have a small stack of 6 or so dead ones I plan on re capping and cleaning up, if I get around to it and they end up working I will let you know (they are the type that would work in a tower, edge connector).

sorry for taking so long, i've been busy with work and i called over there and he's in flagstaff till wednesday, his wife said she'd have him call me wednesday. I'll know by then what he's looking for them. i know he has a few of the model 80's too, if anyone around AZ would be interested.

thanks for all the assistance. i'll be hopeful I'll be able to get a drive somehow for it soon. It's an interesting machine... 4 multiport/a adapters (1mb) inside.. and the 80287 too.
