question to pdp experts - where was this used: X604 backplane, 14 Slot, 70-15140-00

I can provide a little that I found in 1991 Option Module List on bitsavers:
X604 - RMG 230CO 4 04/78 FA RAINBOW, 14-SLOT BACKPLANE css

The fact it says Rainbow is quite interesting, as the OML date 4/78 listed predates actual Rainbow PC production by several years, however, the backplane date in the Ebay listing says Sep 1984. I suspect Rainbow was the internal name for this CSS (Computer Special Systems-limited production special customer builds) project.

Searching OML further for "Rainbow" provides these hits and shows nothing in common with the Rainbow PC:
CSIG2-A JMBR RMG 230CO 3N 02/79 CX6 RAINBOW COMPUTER SYS & IMAGE XEROXGENERATOR,MIN CONFIG, 120V
CSIG3-A JMBR RMG 230CO 3N 02/79 CX6 CSIG2-A + XAUC,2 MS11-JP,M7B50 (MAX XEROXCONFIGURATION), 120V
CSIG4-A JLA RMG 230CO 3N 02/79 CX6 CSIG2-A WNO TAPE CONTROL, 120V XEROX
CSIG9-A JLA DKN 020NU 6N 10/89 CX6 XEROX(RAINBOW PRNTR), 1134A-XX,DR11- XEROX

Going to all the "Xxxx" listings in OML pages 897-898 in the attached PDF shows more interesting tidbits.

I think it's obvious it was for Xerox and quite likely Unibus based, but as for specifics to how the X604 is wired and what went into it, sorry but not much help there.

Maybe search internet on the CSIGx model numbers or "Xerox Rainbow" (too bad I don't see a Xerox forum on VCF).
