Some ultra-rare laptops I picked up recently:

- Teleram T-3000 with external disk drive and manual (1982)
- MicroOffice RoadRunner (1982)
- Dulmont Magnum with manual (1983)

What’d I spend on these? Don’t ask, or my bank account might revolt against me. :)

My collection of early laptops now includes, but is not limited to:

1982:
- Grid Compass 1101
- Teleram T-3000
- MicroOffice RoadRunner
- Epson HX-20
- Grundy NewBrain model AD

1983:
- Kyocera Kyotronic KC-85
- Gavilan (eponymous…)
- Dulmont Magnum
- Sharp PC-5000

I’m currently borrowing a Casio FP-200 (1982) from a friend, and I own a Convergent Workslate (1982/3), but I can’t decide if those are large handhelds or small laptops. It is a dilemma!

Nice collection.

I recently picked up a Cambridge Z88 off of eBay. Not a bad price, and it works (and looks) flawlessly.

I've been kind of limiting my laptop/notebook collection to Tandy and TRS-80, but will pick up something else on occasion.

I've also slowed way down on my collecting. It's not a money thing, it is a space thing, as in "I don't have the space to house the ones I have"! :)

A workslate is kind of a category of it's own, seeing as it's a portable mini-spreadsheet and that's about it.

Never really had the desire for one - seen a cew dumped by a guy about a year ago, and he had a bunch of accessories. Didn;t really go for much - $100 range or so.

Never even thought of bidding ;)

Interesting to look at, but that is one thing that would end up buried in the garage!

For me, that's a big part of it's appeal. I like things that are just a little bit different...

(Oh yeah Evan, grats on the Dulmont. Wish I could afford one).

Affording the Dulmont wasn't the problem, finding one for sale was the problem...

A while ago, Sellam Ismail hooked me up with somebody who owns one, but that person and I couldn't agree on a price. So nothing happened. Then, out of the blue, the third party contacted me this month and said he'd accept HALF of what I offered several months ago! Something about needing a new cricket bat. :dontgeti:
 
Evan: you have an IBM/BellSouth Simon by chance?
I have a box with one of these, well, actually 2. One works, one doesn;t (complains about the ESN being gone) have like 5-8 batteries (all stink, I think), charger, Simon 1MB flash card, 1 of the Simons has the leather case, and i think even the original pointer, which on the other end had a pen.

If you don;t know what it is, it was a still-born idea by IBM in the early 90's. Pretty cool, actually, Phone has a touchscreen, even for dialing. CC:Mail client built-in, could send/receive faxes over the cell line. Analog phone, obviously.

Curious to see if anyone is interested - don;t see them too often on eBay.

^ Kinda reminds me of the Starfish Attachment for the old Motorola Startac. I remember seeing a Starfish still in box at a Pawn Shop in Orange Park Fl.

That was stupid - I was one of those that bought one when they REALIZED it was stupid, and were clearing them out at $20, sealed in box.

What a pain that was - it added SO much size to the StarTac, that it basically nullified the "coolness" of the StarTac!

I probably still have mine, in a bag of Moto StarTac crap I have in the garage.
I think there's like 2-3 StarTacs, batteries, chargers, a v60, and probably that starfish attachment.

Now, I don;t know how that relates to the Simon, as the Simon was a Moto-brick sized phone, and had a backlit touchscreen - the starfish thing was LCD, nonbacklit, but had buttons to navigate, not touch.

But anywho, the main page of the interface I think was kinda similar.

Man - kinda' funny going back and remembering the losers, the flops, and then the "Company Closers." :D:D:D
