Hi
I would like to have a small supply of RIFA cap replacements on hand for when I might need one.
But I do not have the vocabulary to find what I need on mouser or digi-key.
They would be for like apple II line PSU's, AT PSU's, Printer PSU's, Mac PSU's, etc.
I know I need .1uf X's and some .22uf X's, possible some other common values.
But I don't know about the AC/DC voltages, tolerances, or the specifics film type that is best for our types of PSU's. Also the spacing of the leads.
Could some of you more knowledge people provide some links to specific caps on either of those sites so that I might order a few?
Much appreciated!

The most usual type, PME271 capacitors come in all sizes but, why replace them ?

I just remove them these days as they are not needed for the PSU they are installed in, just to reduce the reflected interference and other equipment these days just isn't affected anymore.

Thanks for the replies!
I understand, but I like to put things back that I take out. My upbringing I suppose.
So my question still stands.
Some links would be most helpful.

Go to Film Capacitors, add X1 or X2, Y1 or Y2 as rating, pick your lead spacing and capacitance. Any available should be fine. Same procedure applies to any distributor having this type of filtering for their products.

Supression caps.. Not Rifa caps. Rifa is a brand.. Its like calling drywall sheetrock.

I think a good rule of thumb is to have Y2 and X2 caps on hand as that covers most that youll need.

I do get that, but I found (as it seems you are) that you need quite a large stock of PME271 caps in different sizes and it gets expensive to have enough stock to cover them all when you might be doing a PSU every other week.

As such I now bin them.

"reflected interference" ???

I still occasionally listen to analog FM radio stations, and so I hope that my neighbour's electronic equipment has decent RFI emissions integrity.

And with my vintage computers, I want a line suppression capacitor(s) in place to deal with the vast majority of voltage surges. The engineer put it there so that the remainder of the circuitry did not need to be engineered to tolerate the surges.

We use surge regulators on the mains input these days and I have never had a problem with FM interference but then again, don't use it that much.

Thanks everyone !!
I know much more about these then before !
I did some more digging on digikey and found the X1,X2,Y1,Y2 options in the film capacitor selection with no values entered. it was on the very right most column, it was two screens fills to the right!
Not the easiest thing to find.
Well Now I know whee to find what I need, when and if I need one.
But what material is better paper metalized, polyester metalized, polypropylene, polypropylene metalized???
