Well, as you know, replacing the bios battery could be a problem on an old motherboards. In my case, I modded two RTC instead of buying new ones. That is my experience meshing with this RTCs:
NO SOLID RTC
If we have a Houston Tech RTC, it´s really simply modding it, just pull the lid up and you´ll see the battery exposed . Just unsolder the old battery and replace it with a new one. But I added , using a cutter, as 2032 socket, in that way:
a)Working on the plastic lid:
b)Working on the RTC:
SOLID RTC
2) If we have a solid (no pastic lid on) RTC, we can do several mods. You can find here in the Forums a way of doing that:

Using a Dremel (well, kind of) I took the cover off, so you can easily change the battery without soldering anything.
Just be aware of cutting the 16 and 20 pins or any pin close to pin number 1, where you can find the quartz:
Once the old battery was replaced, just use some fixig tape to hold the positive metal contact to the RTC:
Normally, this RTCs (Dallas and ODIN) are pin compatibles (within same models, of course) so I think this is the correct pinout for this chips:
