Can anyone burn me a copy of RT-11 with the common stuff on a RX-01 format disk? Been trying to clean up the mess out in the shop and so far I have a couple RL-01 drives that I have blown the directory system on and a sick RX-02. Did get my RX-01 working with a RXV-11 on my 11/23 but then discovered that all the disks that I have for that drive have nothing useful on them. Have several that load something called “UR/LEE FORTH-79 X3.0” have no idea what that is. Have a RL-02 pack and drive and if it ever stops raining and blowing will get the drive out of the shed and see if it has an operating system on it. If anyone is in the Maryland area and has a working RL drive maybe we can get together and build a working disk pack on one of my RL-01 or 02 disks? And as usual am looking for a M7846 RX-01 to Unibus, or a M8256 Unibus card for my non working RX-02 or a junk RX-02 that I can scavenge parts for in my ongoing attempts to repair my RX-02 drive.

Ray,

Did you ever get TU58 emulation working on one of your machines? That is how I was able to "bootstrap" myself out of your current situation. I had Will's TU58.exe running on a PC with a bootable TU58 tape image of RT-11. Once the machine was booted, I could initialize floppies/packs and copy the system over.

I presume it's a Forth environment - does it get you to any kind of prompt you can test some simple command sequences at? You could probably get an idea what it was used for by looking at what words are defined - I know the Jupiter ACE had a command called VLIST that did that, though I don't know if that was a standard.

The TU58 paper tape emulator may be the solution to any number of problems, not the least of having a reliable way of pumping OS and applications into old systems and not being at the mercy of old media. I did take home a old signal RU server from work that they were going to trash that has a couple network ports, two serial ports and a flock of USB ports on it and before I took it home did do a fresh install of XP and wiped its drives with the idea of building the virtual TU58 and now maybe it’s time to move ahead with this project. Any ideas where I can download TU58.exe? And RT-11 in a version that would run from a paper tape drive? Looking at how RT-11 operated and how different elements would load depending on what you were doing would not have thought it would function on paper tape but for just building a system disk this may not be an issue. At this time I now have working RL-01, 02 and a RX-01 drives but all my useable backup media is on RX-02 disks! So having a modern system that can mimic a paper tape loader may be the answer also can see where if many of us had modern systems that can load software onto old platforms that would make program sharing way easier.
