in a serial mouse, if one were to just feed it a constant 5VDC signal rather than a clock pulse - it shouldn't be able to form "bits" as output... however, would each movement or button press possibly be recognizable from a mean voltage level?

i was wondering if it would be possible to connect it to a tandy's joystick port and have custom software interpret it's analog input to maybe figure out what the user is doing with the mouse. i wouldn't expect this to work well, if at all but i am just curious.

i might tinker with it. let me know if i'm stupid.

Short answer: no

Mice are digital and have a protocol. They are not analog devices and won't respond this way. Search for 'serial mouse protocol'.
