I have a Quadra 950 running 7.6 with After Dark 4.0 and the system is set to turn the monitor off completely after 60 minutes.
A thing I have noticed is that when I press any keys using the Apple Extended Keyboard the monitor wakes but it seems like the screensaver crashes the system immediately after, leaving whatever the screensaver was doing, plus a bunch of corrupt horizontal bands. If you wake it by bumping the mouse it doesn't crash.
First course of action was turn After Dark off. No change. Screen woke up and it was a full screen of garbage. Turned off monitor sleep and at least 1/1 times so far I've come back to my desk, turned the monitor on and the system had not crashed.

Bad RAM? Bad caps? Other misc hardware fault?

I tend to disable ACPI or power saving features on all of my machines because they always seem to cause problems. Just turn the monitor off to save it.

Oh now I remember why I made the monitor go to sleep.

If I leave it unattended too long, because this is an Applevision 1710AV the flyback eventually starts to arc and that causes the deflection controller to wig out. If you don't catch it in time (you just power cycle the monitor) it blows the chip and the monitor's junk.

So, I DO need the monitor to go to sleep or it will ruin the monitor.
