Tandon floppy drive no longer wants to read any disks

My drive is a TM-100-2A.
I understand those TM-100-2A transfer writing at a different speed of 100kbps. If you look under the front black centre flap there is a label that says 100. My Tandon TM65 2L writes at 250kbps. Matters when you want to make a bootable disk for a particular machine. I have a Toshiba XN801 that transfers at 250kbs or 500kbps depending on the RPM. Thing is I tried to create a disk at the lower speed and the test program only said 300kbps. Had it jumpered for 360RPM so should have worked. Might be something I set wrong but I tried my best.

Technically, the drive doesn't control the rate at which data is read or written - the controller does.
In the PC family, the situation is shown at [here].
The TM100-2 is commonly referred to as a 360K drive.

I meant to say 300RPM for a 360kb floppy. Interesting what you have told me. I was remembering this YouTube video where the guy had a Tandon TM100-4M full height drive that is 100TPI. Guess I remembered that wrong as well. Thanks for the help.

I have an Amstrad PC1512 which I understand is difficult to get a working 5.25 drive for. The one I have was basically given to me with the Tandon TM65 2L which should have been working but has been not reading disks. I bought authentic GEM disks and they should arrive next week or so. That way I can check exactly if the drive is the issue or not. I understand Amstrad needed to have drive select jumpers on the floppy drive and be a 360kb 300RPM drive.
Confused me a bit since Amstrad doesn't use the twist in the cable for a second drive and so the drive controller chip on the drive does concern me. The MB does have a controller Cct. Still not clear to me anyways.

Yes, some PC 'clones' deviate from the IBM PC family.

E.g. I remember working with someone offline, and the design of their clone required that the drives be jumpered/configured to activate the drive's spindle motor whenever the drive was 'selected' by the controller.

E.g. A comment that I see about the Wang PC is, "The only thing the Wang does differently - is instead of a twisted cable setup - you use straight through cables - separate cable per drive, but standard 34 pin."

E.g. A comment that I see about the 'PIII Compaq DeskPro' is, "So if you want to add a second floppy drive to these machines, you not only need to replace the floppy cable with a regular one that supports two drives, you also need to set up the drives in the opposite of the normal convention: the A: drive goes before the twist in the cable, and the B: drive goes after the twist. This caused me many headaches in trying to add a 5.25" B: drive to my PIII Compaq DeskPro until I figured it out!"

I have a Toshiba NX801 1.2 5.25 drive and I know there is a smoked a main chip Chinon T8745F2. I found some new old stock of that chip from Chinese supplier http://www.pro-electr.net/ also called New Strength Electronic co.,Limited. I think I've been stooked. I bought 5 chips from them and they provided no confirmation of receipt of payment. They don't respond via email. Funny because they asked everyday if I wanted to buy the thing after I asked if they had it. I used Paypal so I think I can get my money back.

I am happy to report the chips came through, I have them and they all look to be in great condition. Just haven't tested them yet.
