I'm a bubble memory fan, so this thing was super exciting to acquire! The ebay seller listed it as having a nonresponsive keyboard. He was right -- powering it up, it would not respond to the keyboard at all. I tracked the problem down to what I believed to be low voltage on the +5V and +12V coming into the card cage. I pulled the power supply, replaced all the caps (they all tested good, but if I pull them to test them, I replace them). I trimmed the voltage pot up a little, reassmebled it, and I have a mostly functional computer. The CRT is experiencing issues and has earned the thing a spot over in the hardware tech support forum. I was able to type in my name and save a document to bubble.

It was previously owned by a sportswriter and unfortunately smells like a late 1970s ashtray.

What I'd really like to find is some data -- anything from a user's manual to a service manual (schematics would be awesome! but I have little hope). If anyone does have info on the portabubble, please let me know.

The Intel 7110, which is what I was hoping for! :D

All of my bubble memory projects to date have been using the 7110. I haven't had a chance to do anything with the TI or any of the others yet.
