I know you all know what I mean. Only lately have the "attacks" been getting worse. Like right now, I'm chomping at the bit to get one of David's Mac's shipped to me, cause he offered it free. I'm getting an atari 7800 console from someone for $5+ship from somewhere else.

Why do I do it? I have a chance to learn about the machines and their capabilities. Plus they're just cool. I blame linux, cause with linux almost anything is possible. Well, that's the idea anyways. I guess I'm a learning junkie. I was talking with Roberto about it the other day, that if a situation presents itself that I can learn something computer-ey I'll jump on it.

David's mac is a fabulous chance for me to learn a whole host of stuff regarding a mac! The 7800 too!

Woe is me, the SCavenging angel hath pricked me with his arrow!;)

I really dislike it when you've got something you really can't wait for in the post, and the days seem to ooooooze past like a lethargic slug. If you pay by cheque, that's even worse!

o man I've been waiting for stuph for months now. Talk about oozing. You just got to be patient.
Then there's the people who promise you stuph...then somehow fail to deliver. I got a situation like that right now *snifful*

Umhum, that can be a real pain, especially if you have no idea when it will arrive, every day a dissapointment.

Still, I've had stuff arrive in 2 days, which is always a nice suprise.

Dude...in the back of my mind I was thinking you'd get the impression I was talking about you. Are we linked somehow? No, when I REALLY have to have something you gots NOW, I'll bug ya for it. Don't worry. No, I was talking about another guy, or a couple actually. A couple of guys, not a couple as in a guy and chick. NO not a couple of guys...like they be together like. OMG NEVER MIND!!!

I'll get my media transfer machine set up most ricky-tick. Pm me your address, and I'll try and get sum'n in Monday's mail. Tnx for your patience.
BTW, any new insight on the ROMs? Can I use a 28-pin chip? (May take me awhile to dig-up some (usable) 24-pin).

I think the thing that bugz me the most to wait for is $$$MONEY$$$!!! I'm waiting for a refund check right now, and they told me to expect it within 21 dayz. Well, yesterday was day 21, and no checkie. Now I'm wondering if they actually meant 21 *business* dayz?

Nathan,

I know what you mean. Up until May of 1999, I was a happy little Microsoft Windows NT 4 user. I had "graduated" from my old TRS-80 machines to an IBM PC clone running MS-DOS back in 1985. I became immersed in DOS, both as a user and programmer, first in BASIC, then in 8086 Assembly language, and finally in C. When I finally upgraded to an 80486 machine in mid 1992, I also started to become familiar with Windows and Windows programming.

In May of 1999, I was forced by my job to learn Unix. To accomplish this, I bought and installed Red Hat Linux 5.1 on my old 486-120 machine that had been relagated to serving as a door stop. I quickly realized that all of my DOS and Windows knowledge was basically useless, and had to start the learning process all over again. Well, I'm happy to say I did learn, and I fell head-over-heels for Linux. I've also used all three of the major BSD distributions as well, but still prefer Linux. To me, Linux just makes sense. There was something missing in my computing experience while using Windows, but I didn't realize it until I started using Linux. With Windows, I felt constrained by the GUI. Under Linux, I feel like I've been set free. I normally have several xterms open on my Linux desktop, which allow me the freedom of hand-crafting my solutions to problems. It is this freedom and hand-crafting that appeals so much to me. To people that only know the GUI, the Linux (and Unix) console is a frightening thing. To those of us that become familiar with it and it's tools, it is an incredibly powerful tool that, to borrow the words of Larry Wall, "makes easy tasks easy, and difficult tasks possible".

I firmly believe that it was my love for Linux that started me on my nostalgiac path to collecting some of the vintage microcomputers I had used (and some I had only drooled over) back in my younger days.

Anyone else out there want to share their reasoning for becoming a computer collector?

I can't sleep a lot worrying about things like:
Is my 177K mile car going to not start in the morning?
Am I going to get hacked?
Are my friends plotting on me?
Are people online going to screw me?
Are my computers going to function properly tommorrow?
Am I going to wake up?
Am I going to die tommorrow?
Am I going to get injured, mamed, or brain damaged tommorrow?
Is anyone I love going to get hurt, mamed, or brain damaged tommorrow?
Is my pug going to be ok when I go to see him?
Is the world going to exist tommorrow?
Will humans evolve enough to quite bickering over money?
Will we ever find a way to survive when the sun explodes in three of four billion years?
Will the human race find a way to survive universal collapse when it comes in trillions of years?
Will the human race evolve into a race of light based entities?
What would happen if we could use 100% of our brain, as opposed to the 12% we curently use?
Would that mean we would no longer evolve, or is it the beginning or evolution we have never contemplated?
What can I do to contribute to the evolution of the human race?
What do I need to do to become more than a mere human(In a societal sense)?

ETC, ETC.
I am a worry wart...lol
Nobody reply to these questions please, I want to avoid turning this thread into some kind of debate or something, I am just answering the question of what keep me up at night.

I can't sleep a lot worrying about things like:

Is my 177K mile car going to not start in the morning? - If you take care of it, it will start
Am I going to get hacked? - By who? So they can take some computer pictures?
Are my friends plotting on me? - Some freinds...
Are people online going to screw me? - I hope not; screw you over, possibly, just be careful and ever mindful
Are my computers going to function properly tommorrow? - See the car answer
Am I going to wake up? - You won't know if you don't!
Am I going to die tommorrow? - Live every day like it is you last day; but in a good way.
Am I going to get injured, mamed, or brain damaged tommorrow? - Just be vigilant, and don't worry about it until it happens
Is anyone I love going to get hurt, mamed, or brain damaged tommorrow? - At least it won't be you, and if they do, do everything you can to help them...
Is my pug going to be ok when I go to see him? - Of course, and if not, take it to the vet, they rival regular doctors with what they can do
Is the world going to exist tommorrow? - You won't know if it doesn't!
Will humans evolve enough to quite bickering over money? - Probably not
Will we ever find a way to survive when the sun explodes in three of four billion years? - Of course! Look at how much progress we made in the past 100 years!
Will the human race find a way to survive universal collapse when it comes in trillions of years? Not much we can do about that, and if not, enjoy life, that's why we have it!
Will the human race evolve into a race of light based entities? - Probably not
What would happen if we could use 100% of our brain, as opposed to the 12% we curently use? - Us guys would just think about women even more...
Would that mean we would no longer evolve, or is it the beginning or evolution we have never contemplated? - I'm feeling pretty good right now; but anyhow, nature will take it's course...
What can I do to contribute to the evolution of the human race? - Better Society in any way you can : -)
What do I need to do to become more than a mere human(In a societal sense)? - See last post ^^

I'm sorry, I just had to reply! Others may be feeling this way to, and I like to help in anyway I can! :D Besides, this thread was slowing down anyway.
