How rare is the Model 2 system desk.

I acquired one in the late 80's and still use it as my main desk. I've tried several times to get a Model 2 but never got one.

I had a hard time finding one for a long time but in the last year have acquired 3. If you lived closer I would make you a deal on a model II, I have several.

Now I need to find a model I desk, I had one and dropped the top off to get the laminate on the front edge replaced and the cabinet shop went out of business and I lost my top.

Model II system desks do pop up from time to time, but they really cannot be shipped so they are a regional item which makes them rare. Also, a lot of people have them and don't know what they are so that makes them rare as well. I once bought a Model II system from quite a distance away and I just happened to ask the seller, "Was this computer found on a desk?" "Why, yes", they replied. I went ahead and described the desk and it matched the Model II system desk perfectly. Then they proceed to tell me "I gave that away to my relative. I did not know it went with the computer." :(

Ouch!

I also have acquired a few Model II system desks over time, but a lesser number of Model I system desks. It does seem like the Model I desk is rarer, which on the surface seems strange. It's probably due to it's weaker construction. Most have bowed tops due to the thin particle board used. The Model II desk top is a serious table top, and while it is particle board, it is about twice as thick. The Model II system desk also has a center support strut and much beefier steel structure.

I still have not seen a Model III/4 desk, which I had with a printer stand back in the 80s. And yes, the Model I desk is weak, the brand new in box one I have already has a slight bow.

Back in the late 80 & 90's I was single living from apartment to apartment, move about once a year. I like that I could take that desk apart with few screws in 3 minutes and pack it in my truck. It was built to last my lifetime.
