Trying to install early 90s DOS PC games on a Windows 11 Home laptop

Hi,

I had bought two 90s-era PC games that were programmed for DOS computers - Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective Volume II and III.

I have a Windows 11 home laptop with a portable detachable DVD disc player. I tried running the DOS games this way but they won’t work. They do open on D Drive as a folder but no further action. I downloaded DOS Box to try to make the games compatible with my laptop but no results.

Is there a way to play DOS PC games on any modern system? Any recommendations would help. Thanks. :)

DOSBox, an x86 emulator with DOS

Try the above. Neither W10 or W11 will support anything less than 32-bit in their native state.

Windows 10 32 bit can still thunk into 16 bit code, but with heavy limits. No full screen DOS applications, no sound and probably no graphics either.

I'd recommend DosBox-X, a fork of DosBox that has additional support for Windows 9x and is generally easier to work with.
