(Admins, if this needs to be placed in another forum, please feel free to do so. I just thought that with these being CP/M machines, that this would be the best place for this thread.)

I have a friend who wants to give me two OKI IF-800 computers. All I have to do is pay for shipping or arrange a pickup. These machines are quite heavy, requiring 2 people to safely move and carry the monitor. I'm still trying to get more info, but it would be nice if someone here was already willing to accept one, then I can pay to have the other shipped to me. I'm currently working with the current owner to obtain pictures and more information on these systems; like what is included, what software they have, where they're currently located ETC. I hope we can work out a deal on these machines, because if thet he can't find someone to take them, they may be headed to a recycler. I really would hate to see that happen.

These systems also use 500K floppy disks, and also have a 7 or 8 Meg hard disk drive installed. It's unsure whether these have true 16 but color, or a total of 128 colors, but either way, these are beautiful computers. According to their current owner, they are both in great condidition and ready to go to work. Old Computers.com has some interesting information on them. I'll get more accurate specs as I talk to him, and pass them on through this thread.

If you're interested, please contact me. Please also include any questions you may have regarding the computers so I can pass tem on.

That's a great machine--Z80 with color graphics. You could also get it with 8" drives instead of 5¼" drives. If it weren't so far away (shipping would be a killer), I'd probably fall on one--and then get my head examined. :)

These people seem to be looking for one.

I know, that's one reason I want one for myself. And I DO need me head examined. I'm still waiting for him to respond. Knowing my luck, he probably got someone to pick them up already.

The problem with the place you linked to is that they want YOU to pay for everything, including shipping. I actually have had some dealings with them previously. I'm all for helping when and where I can, but I can't see anyone paying to ship something they're giving away. Still, they do get equipment given to them that way.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I only want one of these. If I could swing it, I'll would pay to have both brought here, then I'd sell one to offset the cost. I just don't have the up front money.

I take it that your friend isn't local?

Yeah, you're right. The thing is, he's a friend on Linkedin. I've known hom for years, but if we ever discussed where we live, I don't remember.

Still, If I can't make something happen on my end, I'll see what I can do to get the systems posted in the forums for him. I would rather they go here than a museum where the only use they would get is as eye candy, if that.

They will be shipping from Huntington NY. Shipping weight is roughly 200 pounds total for both systems. If anyone is interested, I'll forward you the info. I can't take them.
