I know there was supposed to be the DD64, disk drive unit for the N64, but it failed and was never released outside of Japan (that I know of). Has anyone ever used that slot for anything? It's I/O expansion, so I figure it can be used for something. I've wondered this for a long time, why that slot was never developed for (that I know of).

I know of a few guys over here who collect this system, and have most, but not all Jap games released for it. Not that it answers your question, and it is quite obvious that in the times of collectors, systems will travel much further than initially thought.

The zip drive is for the cart slot, and the 64DD was never real big. Collectors have them, which is cool. But I don't think that anyone developed anything for the expansion slot on the bottom. A cd-rom would be nice, or some kind of drive. Has anyone been able to find the specs for that slot? I looked once but came up empty.

1) Some games where sold for the 64DD, but just a small handful
2) The circuitry for the expansion slot on the Nintendo 64 is parallel to & directly connected to the cartridge slot. Go to http://www.benheck.com/, & click on the link that leads to his N64 Portable. Somewhere in there is a picture of it.

...By the way, if you plan to crack open a N64, be careful, for from what I've heard, they're very sensitive to static electricity. Wear one of those anti-static wrist-band-with-cable-with metal-clippy-thing-at-end things (I forget what they're called...)
