Hi guys, I was directed here from a vintage computer group on facebook. Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place or whatever. Just let me know and I'll fix it if so.
We acquired a property with an abandoned house. In it I found an IBM 5110 with a 5114 disk drive.
Do you guys have any idea of the value of such a thing?
It seems like it should be in a museum, but maybe they are common, I have no idea.
I want to sell it to raise money for charity, so I'm not super concerned with making money.
It would be cool to see it go to a museum, even if it was for less money.
Kind of a good cause on both ends situation.
But I have no idea if it has much historical value, if it's something a museum would want, or indeed what it is in fact worth.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
I might have disks and manuals for it too, but one of my coworkers might have thrown them away. I can't find them at the moment.

It has historical value. It is not common but there are enough that most who want one can get one. Unfortunately, complete systems with drives are very expensive to ship so there is a good chance that most of the money spent goes to the shipper.

There are a number of programs and add on boards that were not widely available. Check through the manuals and disks to find what you have. You may have something that could cause a bidding frenzy. I don't remember anyone having a subscription database for the 5100 line but I may have missed one. Of course, that would require disks that match the box which doesn't always happen.

Hello

As shown as not working probably $1000-$1500, working $2000-$2500, but could be less
as this is the least desirable version. The Model 2 (no tape drive) and has BASIC only (no APL)

Shipping could be $800-$1000+

Most of the boards have IBM custom chips, if any are faulty then you'll have to find another machine as a donor etc.

Not many people will have the permanent space for such a thing.

Put it on the dreaded Ebay for bids starting at $500 is your best bet, collection only items get less attention and price.
