Vax and PDP access interest

My fingers are getting itchy for a DEC project.

1-Would there be any interest if I opened up my VAX at home for guest accounts? I've got a VAXstation 4000 -60 with 32MB of RAM running OpenVMS 7.1 and about 12GB of storage available (I can add more fairly easily)

2- I've found a few PDP emulators that look interesting. My dad is getting ready to surplus a winbox from his work that I could toss NT or Linux (*twitch*) on it and set one or two of these emulators up on.

I think there would be interest. I plan to try the same thing. I was going
to do it with my 11/84. But hopefully I'll have a nice 11/70 to tinker with
in a few months so while I watch the nice lights blink, users can be playing
around. We shall see how that project goes.

I'd like to be able to put the pdp-8e up on the net, but don't know of a good
way since it has no TCP stack. A terminal server maybe? Anyone tried
this?

The Cray-Cyber folks have a gateway server between the Internets and the Crays. I think thats how their doing it, but they don't really talk about the Gateway server much, its all about the Crays there

Why not use a variation on the telnet to serial port program that Mike Chambers has been writing, and use a little pc as a net server. you could possibly even re-write it to have multiple ports (both serial & network).

Me too! I would be interested. I have done Sun, linux, FreeBSD, BeOS. Not much Vax, think it was about 2 hours experience 8 years ago. I was the Oracle database guru at the time. I'm still not super good at vi, just learned enough of vi to squeak by wq).

The human mind is indeed strange. I have a great fondness for the DEC PDP series even though I have never programmed one. I really don't understand why I like them so much but I do. I had a machine reference book (explained all the instructions, etc) for years. Think it didn't manage all my moving. You start lifting those up and down to see how much they weight when you move often. My 4 inch think college physics book is LONG gone, think it was in the 14 lb range.
